    Edgeworth Economics is an economic, financial, and quantitative consulting firm that provides economic analysis and expert testimony for clients facing complex litigations involving antitrust, mergers and acquisitions, class certification, labor, intellectual property, transfer pricing, and complex commercial damages. Our clients include law firms, Fortune 500 companies, and government agencies.

     

    This is a hands-on role for a Director of Finance in a growing and fast-paced economic consultant firm. Edgeworth is building out finance and accounting operations in-house with the help of a newly created Director of Finance position. The Director of Finance will initially supervise a small team performing all billing, payables, and will report to the President. This position is responsible for the accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, tax compliance, investments, audit functions of the firm, and partner compensation. S/he ensures that there are effective financial and accounting system controls and standards in place and is also responsible for managing the administrative staff of other office locations.

    Responsibilities

    • Responsible for all systems and procedures for the collections of revenue, payment of bills and purchasing to ensure the integrity of financial information.
    • Oversee all accounting activities ensuring compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies and procedures.
    • Oversee and lead the annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the President and CEO.
    • Administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes and keeping the President and Partners abreast of the organization’s financial status.
    • Manage the firm’s cash flow and forecasting and oversight of all bank accounts and investment vehicles to maintain adequate working capital and return.
    • Ensure compliance with Federal, State, local and any other financial, tax reporting and regulatory requirements.
    • Oversee the Partner compensation calculations and reporting in coordination with the President.
    • Manage the monthly close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, inter-company, cost allocations, and other balance sheet and P&L accounts.
    • Prepare, review, and issue financial statements in accordance with US GAAP.
    • Have experience with systems integration projects to build out ERP functionality.
    • Supervise and develop a strong, performance-oriented accounting team, capable of actively and effectively engaging and growing with the business.
    • Update, document, and implement all necessary business policies and accounting practices to improve the finance department’s efficiency and financial controls.
    • Provide financial information to meet the needs of Partners including producing customized financial reports, trend analysis on an as needed, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
    • Prepare, communicate, and present critical financial matters to the President.
    • Supervise and work with the administrative support staff in the San Francisco and Toronto Offices.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelors and/or master’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration with an Accounting emphasis preferred; CPA required
    • 6+ years progressive experience in Accounting management roles
    • Big 4 public accounting or professional services experience strongly preferred
    • Experience with Sage Intacct strongly desired
    • Strong understanding of GAAP and technical accounting
    • Track record of building, developing and leading high-performance accounting teams in a professional services organization
    • Ability to work independently without considerable oversight, and to act decisively
    • Experience in designing and implementing accounting processes and controls
    • Excellent collaboration and relationship-building skills
    • Analytical, high attention to detail, organized with exceptional time-management skills
    • Strong communication skills, with ability to communicate at all levels in the organization
